The New England Orienteering Club

Whipple Hill, Winchester, MA
April 28, 2024
Event Directors: Mori Finlayson-Johnecheck and Birk Breimo

We had a good turnout for the Whipple Hill this weekend organized by two High Schoolers from Arlington. Courses difficulty ranged from beginner to advanced so a wide variety of folks got to experience this new map. The courses were challenging, and you could benefit a lot by taking the right route choice. While our organizers did a great job planning, the event wouldn't have been possible without help from our fantastic volunteers. Special thanks to Ellie Lin, Kristin Hall, David Landrigan and Wendy Johnecheck for helping with registration, Masha Bloom for helping with control pickup & Magnus Bjorkman and Michael Cooper for help with the computer.

The spring weather did not disappoint, providing us with a perfect running temperature, dry woods, and plenty of sunshine. Having the opportunity to host at Wright-Locke Farm was an added bonus because you could hang out with the goats and chickens after your course. Thanks to the welcoming environment, many people chose to stay awhile to socialize and discuss courses. We appreciate Wright-Locke Farm and Lexington Recreation for letting us get people into the woods. The kids loved the animals it was just perfect for what we needed. Hopefully the map can be used for local educational programming in the future.

Thanks to everyone who came by and we hope to see you at the next one!
