The New England Orienteering Club

The U.S. Relay Championships are being held as part of a two-day meet on April 26 & 27 in Newark , Delaware (a 5 - 6 hour drive from Boston). NEOC has often done well at this type of event in the past, and we hope to enter several teams. The event is structured to encourage participation by all ages and ability levels – you do not have to be a “serious” orienteer to do this!

The relays themselves are on Saturday April 26; on Sunday, there will be a one-day A-meet. Each relay team has 3 members, and there are three different divisions: 3-point, 6-point and 9-point teams. Points are assigned as follows:

  • Ages 17-20 or 40-49 receive 1 point,
  • Ages 15-16 or 50-59 receive 2 points,
  • Under 15 years of age or 60 and older receive 3 points.
  • A female orienteer receives 2 points, in addition to any age points.

Team members run legs of varying difficulty, down to the Yellow level for the 6 and 9 point teams. More information on the meet can be found on the DVOA website.

The NEOC teams will be organized by Jeff Saeger, Ian Smith and Tim Parson. If you are interested in participating, contact Ian. In addition to your age, let him know how competitive a team you’d like to be on.
