String, White, Yellow, Orange, "ROARANGE," and games and activities for children
Comments:
This is a special AFTERNOON event (1pm to 3pm starts) with courses: String, White (1.1km), Yellow (1.6km), Orange (2.1km), and the return of the ROARANGE challenge (3.1km, 18 CPs).
In addition to the regular NEOC orienteering courses, this event will include activities and courses designed for local youth (ages 6-9, 10-12, 13+) as well as adult beginner instruction and training courses. The youth activities will be led by coaches and start with age-appropriate games aimed at teaching map reading skills and navigation through unfamiliar terrain. After the games, youth participants will have the option to try an orienteering course with family, friends or more experienced youth can complete them individually. A coach will also be available to assist beginning adult orienteers and will have set training courses for experienced orienteers (i.e. contour interpretation course). To participate in all coaching activities, please arrive promptly between 12:45 - 1:00 pm. This youth outreach initiative is a joint project of NEOC, CSU, and Navigation Games.
