Comments:
Please come out for the May 1st Orienteering event at Breakheart Reservation in Saugus. The park is full of beautiful ponds, marches, hills, and trails, and has something to offer to both a novice as to those seeking a challenge. As always there will be a menu of courses to choose from:
  • White course (easiest, staying on the trail, 11 controls, 2.4 km) - this will bring you on a nice loop through the park along ponds and up and down hills. Keep an eye on the map so you don't miss a turn!
  • Yellow course (easy, 13 controls, 2.3 km) - basically the same route as the white course, but you need to keep an eye out for the control points which will be off the trail.
  • Orange (intermediate, 16 controls, 3.2 km) - this course should offer some challenge to those still relatively new to orienteering, but everybody should be able to find all the controls with a little bit of persistence. You will often need to leave the trail in order to find the controls.
  • Brown, Green, Red (advanced, 13/17/20 controls, 3.1/5.3/6.8 km) - these courses will force you to stay off the trail for long distances and the controls will often be unforgiving. Good navigation skills are essential.
If you would like beginner instruction, please ask.

Volunteers are needed to help with the meet; if you can help, please let the Meet Director know.
