Abbreviated Instructions for Search & Destroy O
All controls on the map are worth at least 1 point, but you have to epunch to collect the point.
All S & D controls will have three different colored tags attached. One color will be worth 15 points, another color 10 points, the third color 5 points, plus you can epunch for 1 point. Only one tag allowed per person from each control. Each colored tag will have the control code marked on it. Strategy and assessing your competition can have a large effect on your final score! If you miss the mass start you can still go out on the course, even though it might be slim pickins on the higher point tags.

The Meet

The Orienteering comes first to work up an appetite for the picnic. After everyone is back from orienteering and mellowed out with good food, a short members-voting meeting will take place.

There will be White, Yellow and Orange Courses, plus a String Course for the youngsters. A special course, referred to as a "Search & Destroy O" will have a mass start at 11:15AM. See the explanation above.

Beginners welcome. A beginners' group instruction lesson will start at 11:15AM, running around 20 to 25 minutes. The cost is included in the price of registration for a course. Everyone is invited to stay for the picnic and meeting.

The Picnic

For the picnic, NEOC will provide plates, flatware, cups, punch, and cookies. No grills available. Bring a main dish for yourself and your family, plus a potluck item to share with everyone. For the potluck part, bring either a salad/sidedish, or a dessert to share: if your last name begins with A – M, a side dish; last name N – Z, a dessert.

A lawn chair or two would be a good idea. Bug repellant would be an excellent idea! For the supermarket challenged we will be ordering some pizzas to be delivered around 1PM, $2 for a slice of cheese pizza, $3 for the other kinds. There will be games and prizes for the kids, and the club library will be available for loans and returns.

The Club Meeting

The Club Meeting is open to everyone. It will start around 2PM. There will be short reports from the club officers, a question-and-answer period, and an introduction to the candidates for election. The list of candidates, with their biographies, has been mailed to all members, and will be posted before the meeting. We need a quorum of members to make it a legal election, so please come and vote (preferred method). If you can't come, give your signed proxy to a member who is coming, or mail your ballot ahead of time. All methods are acceptable.

Rain or shine, hope to see you there!
