NEOC's list of Night orienteering events continued with the second Night-O at Nobscot Scout Reservation. Courses included a beginner course and three advanced courses. The beginner course was explicitly designed to introduce newcomers to night orienteering.
A primary and backup flashlight was required for all participants. The backup light didn't need to be powerful - just enough to get you out of the woods if your primary light malfunctioned. Going out in groups of two or more was permitted.
Night orienteering takes place entirely in the dark. Competitors typically wear headlamps (though a regular flashlight will more than suffice) and search for reflective controls. Unlike orienteering during the day, there is much less visual information available - you can only see what is within the beam of your flashlight.
