The New England Orienteering Club

Model Course

A model course will be available Friday afternoon from 2:00 to 6:00, and Saturday before your start from 9:00 to noon. The model course is 2.1k with 100 m. of climb. It is composed of two loops, a short loop of 700 meters on the south side of the main road and then a longer loop of 1400 meters on the north side. So it is easy to choose how large a taste of Mount Tom terrain you want to get in advance of your races. The control sites will have stands with flags but no SI units.

Download the model map and print it yourself, or buy a printed model map ($5) when you pick up your registration packet on Friday or Saturday. The map scale is 1:10000 with 5m contours.

The start/finish for the model course is right after you enter the park, just past the toll booth on the left. But there is no parking there. Continue into the park another 400 meters past Lake Bray and turn left to the large parking area. Then walk/jog back to the start/finish. Note that the park gates are locked promptly at 6:00 PM. If you do the model on Friday, be careful to finish and exit the park before they lock you in.
